Docs Challenge - Formatting

    1. Open the "Plain Doc" listed in the folder on the right. Make a copy of it for yourself and add your name to the title.
    2. Now make it more exciting AND more understandable by playing around with formatting. As you play, see if you discover how to do the following:
      • change fonts, colors and sizes for titles, headings, and text
      • save titles, headings, and text settings as default for every document you create
      • use the paintbrush to change formatting
      • use a table to make a nice title or subtitle
    3. Look at mine, "H's example" for one example. No need to format yours exactly like mine.
    4. Once you have something you like, add your link to the document called, "Share Links".
    5. In the list of our documents below, open the document of the person below you in the list. If you are last on the list, go to the top. (Anyone having a problem opening a document? Why might that be and what can be done to fix it?)
    6. Look at this person's formatting. Do one or two things to make the formatting even better.

Discussion

  • What challenges did you encounter?
  • How did you handle sharing your document? What might be another way to share?
  • Let's talk about editing and viewing limits on documents.

Docs Challenge - Providing Feedback

  1. Open the document "Providing Feedback".
  2. Start leaving feedback in any way you would like to on this document. Experiment with the different ways. Want to try something more challenging? Look at the bottom of the doc for some ideas.

Presentations Challenge - Gmail and Calendar

    1. Open Gmail and Calendar and take 10 minutes to explore and find out how to do something you couldn't do before. Need ideas? Look at this list of skills and pick something you don't know how to do (things highlighted in green are the basic things) or check out this Basic Gmail Setup guide adapted from something we used with faculty.
    2. We are going to make a collaborative presentation and then present to each other tips and tricks for using Gmail and Calendar. Make 1 or 2 slides with something you learned. Slides should NOT be full of words. Instead, take a screenshot to show what you are talking about and put the words in the notes area. See my example.
    3. Provide feedback or ask questions using the commenting feature in presentations.
